I'm not usually a fan of boat necks, which made me a little nervous, but I just loved this dress. And I'm glad I took that small risk. The Wellsley dress is a perfect addition to my wardrobe. I'm really looking forward to wearing it more now that the weather is warmer. The white-on-white stripe is subtle, but it's so flattering, especially with the contrasting/adjacent stripes on the skirt. Details such as the snap closures on the side make the dress feel extra special. It's clean and feminine, but it doesn't feel precious, perhaps because the pockets give it a slightly androgynous feel (and you really can use them!). It's this perfect mix of pretty and sophisticated and edgy. The skirt is the exact right length, and it's flared in just the way you'd want it to be. It's short, but it's not too short (but it's almost too short--in a good way). I love the sleeves and the way the top fits; it's not really fitted (the top), which makes me look taller and emphasizes the shape of the skirt. When I put it on, I don't want to take it off. It's fun to dance in, too. It's hard for me to pick favorite M.E. Shirley pieces because they're all so good, but this is definitely one of my favorites.
In short, it's flattering, comfortable, and beautiful but still casual. I don't feel like I'm going to ruin it every time I put it on, which is what keeps me from wearing a white winter dress that I love but sort of hate that I save for special occasions. I still feel like I could wear the Wellsley dress to special events, but I also feel like I could wear it every day, which is exactly what I wanted from it. Perfect all around.
